Based on a true story, The Staircase explores the life of Michael Peterson (Colin Firth), his sprawling North Carolina family, and the suspicious death of his wife, Kathleen Peterson (Toni Collette). The eight-episode Max Original limited series, created by Antonio Campos, debuts Thursday, May 5 on HBO Max.

Sophie Turner is no stranger to a Louis Vuitton show. As a face for the label, the actor has attended many of Vuitton’s presentations during Paris Fashion Week, and consistently wears Nicolas Ghesquière’s designs on the red carpet (remember her hot-pink SAG Awards dress in 2020?). It was only natural, then, that Turner and husband Joe Jonas were in the front row of Vuitton’s fall 2020 show yesterday, along with guests like Cody Fern, Emma Chamberlain, and Gemma Chan. “Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world,” says Turner, who documented her getting-ready process for the show for Vogue. “That, combined with attending Nicolas [Ghesquière’s] and Vuitton’s shows, make it one of the most exciting and beautiful weeks in the year.”

This season, her favorite part of the collection was the clothing’s powerful, yet feminine, silhouettes. “It was an incredible show,” says Turner. “He surprises me every season with incredible collections—always so different and daring.” When asked what she could see herself wearing, she calls out the accessories first. “The bags and the jewelry were insane,” says Turner. “I love the exaggerated shapes, the juxtaposition with the flowing gowns and heavy knits. I also love how comfortable some of the looks looked.”

Given the paparazzi were out in full force at the presentation, Turner had to slip into a statement look of her own for the event, of course. She opted for a look from the brand’s spring 2022 collection that included a cropped white top with a chain detail to the neck, a long oversized black leather dress, and a tailored jacket. “The look is a perfect example of Nicolas’s work—breathtaking tailoring, giving you that powerful structure, but with the bright pop of color,” says Turner. For shoes, she added a pop of color via Vuitton’s bright-red ankle boots.

Turner attended the show with her husband, Joe Jonas, by her side. A master of couple style, she admits that they often think about synchronizing their outfits. “When attending an event with someone, be that a show or a carpet, you have to coordinate a little, be that colors or a nod to the accessories,” says Turner. Jonas complemented her in sporty navy-and-white bomber jacket, and they both opted for neutral color tones. “They were the first looks we both tried on and voilà, a perfect match,” says Turner.

Highland Film Group is launching the film — from writer/director Daniel Casey and about a tech-savvy thief who hacks a supposed millionaire’s bank account — at the virtual European Film Market.

Dane DeHaan, recently cast in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Oppenheimer, and Game of Thrones and X-Men: Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner are to lead the upcoming crime thriller Wardriver, a splashy new addition to Berlin’s virtual European Film Market (EFM).

Written and directed by Daniel Casey — best known for penning F9: The Fast Saga but whose credits also include Liongate’s Kin — the film is due to start principal photography this summer in Los Angeles.

Star Thrower Entertainment’s Tim White, Trevor White and Allan Mandelbaum, who produced Will Smith’s Oscar-nominated critical hit King Richard, alongside the Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep political thriller The Post, will produce Wardriver alongside David M. Wulf (Call Jane, The Card Counter). The film is co-financed by Highland Film Group, which is representing international rights to the film and is launching sales at the EFM. CAA Media Finance is representing domestic rights.

Wardriver follows a brilliant, tech-savvy thief called Cole (DeHaan) who has a highly specialized skillset and uses it to commit robberies from his laptop. When Oscar, a criminal with a dangerous past, discovers Cole’s unique talents, he forces him to hack into the bank account of the young, seemingly wealthy Sarah (Turner) and empty it of nearly a million dollars. Cole soon discovers that a powerful, mob-connected lawyer has been using Sarah to hide his money. Seeking to bail her out of danger, Cole initiates a plan to replace the stolen money and begins to fall for Sarah. Ignoring warning signs that something greater is amiss, Cole soon finds himself pulled into an elaborate web of lies, deceit and betrayal.
